A3: 444 related to odometer not working?

Screw the odometer, are my brakes going out slowly?!!

Hydraulic Modulator?
Haynes does not give a clue on what to check in order to find out what is wrong. What relay, fuse, or wiring harness should I be checking. Any other suggestions to find out what caused this fault code?
