Engine Noise

You need to give us A LOT MORE information.

When you added the 1 1/2 quarts, was the oil level now up to the lower mark on the dipstick? Or, did the 1 1/2 quarts bring the oil to the upper mark on the dipstick?

What do you mean by clanging noise. "Clanging," to me, is what a bell does. Does you engine sound like a bell?

Beside answering my simple questions, sit down for a few minutes and write out as much as you can about this set of symtoms and pass it on to us.
