Good one. I don't have my 855t manual in front of my but I recall it mentioning the R version will allow about 240hp for 30sec before backing off to the 222hp the non-R model is rated for. I figured Volvo's thinking was that after 30 seconds, if you haven't beaten whatever it is you're trying to outrun, you're not going to. Thirty sec is a long time to have your foot planted on the floor on the street. (Not to start a street racer flame thread here.)
No idea about differences between T and R transmissions. Seems it would have surfaced here often if it were true though. FWIW, my car's previous owner had the tranny replaced under warranty at 56,000 miles. Did a rear seal at the same time as added insurance.
The recent post regarding a tranny failure in a modified turbo was reassuring though. Again, if I recall, about 280hp, lots of abuse and finally cooked the trans at somewhere close to 150,000 mile mark.
Looks like it was serviced well. Can this be validated? Looks pretty nice but I'd pass based on mileage. Just my 2cents.
