I don't know about the 740, but it can be a pain in the 850. The buttons are (of course) covered by the vinyl on the seat back. The buttons have to be pushed pretty HARD, and at the same time. The headrest has to be pulled up at the same time. It is hard alone, but can be done. A helper is best. My guess is that if you can feel the buttons, you are just not pushing them in enough.
