Scantool 850

You would need a software interface on the laptop and a hardware interface to connect and communicate with the OBDII system. You can't connect a laptop straight to OBDII plug in car.

I've been looking at www.scantool.net which has interfaces you can buy or build yourself. The software they have is free and can download from web site. It is the cheapest I've found. They have a lot of info on building your own scan tool based on an ELM IC chip with parts, schematics, etc.
