Neutral safety Switch 850

If your mechanic couldn't explain what it does, perhaps you need another mechanic. Neutral safety switch AKA PNP switch AKA gear position sensor. It prevents engine start unless park or neutral are selected, it activates the reverse lights, and it provides the trans control module with information as to which gear is selected. Failure causes shifting problems and reverse light failure.
