headlight wiper motor replacement 850

I just replaced the passenger-side headlight wiper motor on a 1997 850, T-5. Mine was damaged by someone over-riding my bumber. The Chilton Manual says to remove the mounting bolts and tilt it up and out from the back. Good luck! The AC high pressure tubing and the cable tray for the ECU are directly behing the motor on the passenger's side.

After much wasted time, I removed the bolts which hold the entire molded plastic frame to the front of the vehicle. I was able to tilt the plastic frame forward and pull it up enough to remove and replace the wiper motor from the rear of the frame. The plastic frame is held in place by 5 bolts on the front side and two screws on the back. The R&R via this method took about 40 min. I won't even begin to say how long I struggled following the book directions. The driver-side motor comes out easily because there are no obstructions. I did not have to remove that one.

I actually rebuilt the motor from pieces scavanged from a junkyard. It cost me less than $10. A new motor is around $300. It works great!
