Burning oil 850

Take it to another mechanic. Blue smoke could be a head gasket leak or worse. May be minor repair, may be major. Depends on how much you want to keep your Volvo. Perhaps try some over-the-counter smoke treatment that you pour in. Wouldn't hurt. I have a friend that poured some in his '89 Chrysler LeBaron. Stopped smoking, seriously : )
