Reason I also suggested right side hub bearing is that when turning left the right side is loaded and vice versa. The bearings cannot be replaced separately so the hub (with bearings) must be replaced. Hub costs are in the range of $125 from IPD, could be less elsewhere. This is not beyond the DIY but does require some mechanical ability and maybe specialized tools.
BUT, since you say you're hearing it from the left side during a left turn all bets are off. If you're so inclined, you might jack up the car and with the front wheel off the ground grab it at 3:00 o'clock and 9:00 o'clock and try to wiggle it back and forth. Do the same holding the wheel at 12:00 and 6:00. (Before putting your hand under the wheel (6:00 o'clock position) have the car supported on something other than it's jack. Depending on the amount of wear you might hear a click or clunk as you shake the wheel. Spin the tire and listen for a rumble which would indicate a failing bearing. You'll hear the brake rotor scraping against the pads so disregard that.
Beyond that, if you'd rather have someone else troubleshoot and fix the problem an alternative to the dealership's service dept might be a local Volvo independent.
Good luck.
