I'd have the car looked at by an independent mechanic... not one of the seller's choice. If you live in Anchorage, and don't have a mechanic that you trust, I can recommend mine (been using him for over a decade). At any rate, spending $60-100 to have a mechanic thoroughly check for any problems (and if there's collision indicators) is a must-do when deciding on a used vehicle. Does the seller have maintenance records? Was it serviced at the dealer? The dealer may, if you ask nicely, print out the service tickets for any service they performed.
I think $10k is a low price as well, esp for our area. It'd be a good deal if the car were in good shape, though.
