How to replace O-ring on the dipstick? 850

I changed my oil today and while doing so I wondered how one would replace the
tiny o-ring near the top of the dipstick. Mine is pretty hardened by now and I could see no way of separating apart the dipstick to remove the old o-ring.
Any thoughts?
