I'm sure all the regulars know about the flame trap, I learned about it recently and decided today I'd check it out. Took off the throttle body shield, took my 7mm socket popped off the air hose, unhooked the connector, and unscrewed the hose in the back where the flame trap is located.

Mine was really messy, I had gone in with the intention of cleaning it and putting it back, as some Brickboarders have done, but I broke the thing getting it out, so I just cleaned all the hoses, checked the O-ring and put the stuff all back together without the flame trap. Hey, turbos don't need em and Volvo hasn't put in flame traps since 1997 (the 1998 S70s disn't have flame traps) in their new cars, so taking the advice of some people, my clogged flame trap went to the wastebasket. And the car runs great, even had it on the highway tonight. Just thought I'd share my story, thanks to Bay 13 and all of your comments that helped me.
