Let me know what you find out. This is such a stupid thing -- I can't understand why you can't buy the silly plastic top!!! I looked at the ones the dealer has and was tempted to buy the entire top and rod assembly, but found out they somehow affix the top to the rod without screwing it it. I was just going to unscrew the new one and toss the rod but................
