O2sensor replaced; check engine still on 850 1996

What codes were you getting before you did the change? You can pull the ECU fuse or disconnect the battery for a minute and that should clear the light, unless the problem is still there. Is the "universal one" you installed a heated O2 sensor? I would recommend replacing both the front and back sensors at the same time and with the correct parts. Most people end up having problems with those "Universal Ones". The correct sensors are available at FCPGroton.com for $115/$108 each. Mike
