ETS Light S70 2000

Could someone please explain what a bad ETS module means? Solid state electronics (from my knowledge) are either good or bad. Bad meaning they dont work. Mine still appears to work. Does this possibly imply a faultly/flaky sensor or connections? Would the stored code indicate a specific sensor or control module failure?
