I agree it may be a clogged cat. To check, all you need is a vacumn gauge. Hold the RPMs at around 2.5 to 3k for about 30 secs to a minute. If the vacumn starts to fall off, that means that there is blockage in the exhaust...meaning that the cat is probably clogged.

A smog analysis might also reveal clues.
