96 Base 850 Wagon 850

Buy it.......

This has been a great car for us and we're headed for 80K ourselves. We bought it 3 years out fresh off lease and it was clean with 34K,new brakes and full dealership service and inspection. We did a rather expensive rotor and brake job down the road and now we're looking at the timing belt and new tires. The car still feels like a rock/brick.

I won't knock on wood because after time I have come to realize that we bought maybe the most trouble free model in one of the least problem prone years. I bought an extended warrenty at 50K just to guard against living out what some other owners seem to have suffered with what seems to be the turbo models.

I know all the bad rap the 850/70 has gotten but I have no intention of selling ours. I actually prefer the 850 over the 70 because it reminds me more of ol skool Volvos, funky chunky door latches and every other possible interior surface being rectalinear outside of the seats.

I test drove both the light and high pressure turbos but none of that vroom and noise floated my boat at the time except in the dream of that fast ass R wagon that could race a V-8 Mustang off the red line. I thought just the giggle of that idea was maybe worth the pursuit. But alas....I bought a Base and don't regret it one bit.
