Remote Start Location...and a mysterious switch 850

Just out of curiousity then. You can start the car from outside the car via the remote entry system. How would this work on a manual transmission without leaving the car in neutral while parked (something I was told to never do). What is the purpose other than to perhaps escape faster if someone is chasing after you in a dark parking lot. . .
