The amp that I used is not a booster in the usual car-audio sense of the term, in spite of whatever one-line description is in the dealer's parts computer. This amp takes a *line-level signal* from the head unit, whereas my understanding of the word "booster" -- as it's usually used for products from Radio Shack and other suppliers -- is an amplifier that takes *speaker level signals* and amplifies them. But I digress....
The size, by my vague recollection, is about the same 7 x 4 x 4 that you described for the Bertone amp. It mounts behind and below the head unit, on top of the hump in the floorboard.
As for the original poster's opinion that his SC-815/816 sounds great, I'll give him that lattitude. Sound quality is a subjective issue, as opposed to sound ACCURACY, which the SC-815/816 clearly does not have. Apparently, Fruckman likes his bass. I say "more power to him."
Fruckman, do me one favor though: just turn it down when you're sitting next to me at a traffic light. :)
