Where do I start? I bought my S40 used, knowing that it was used for a rental car. 20,000 miles later, I can relate the following problems.
1. A bad rattle in the headliner on the drivers side. This was caused by some kind of a sticker on the headliner from the factory, and was removed and repaired, along with a loaner car , no cost.
Hows that? Since then I have replaced the rotors and pads on both ends, spark plugs at 33k miles, done oil changes (full synthetic only), normal service stuff (which I do myself), replaced both h7 bulbs once, only because one side was burned out. Rotors and pad sets came from Tirerack, and the pricetag was less than $275. I don't expect to get more than 15k out of the pads, but I do quite a bit of high speed driving. In short, I drive the devil out of this thing, and I love every minute of it! It's got around 37k on it now, and I hope my luck continues. I'm really sorry to hear so many people have had bad luck
