Check all the hoses and such around the top of the tank for any disconnected.. Keep in mind there is an open vent hose among these.

Unfortunately, if your LOW light is on, and it leaks when you add, it sounds like a tank problem. If you need to remove the tank, it comes out from the bottom. The job's not difficult, but it helps to have the car up on ramps.
