Oil Leak? -- Not Sure 850 1997

That sounds a bit ominous. :-(

The leak seems to be coming from 1 or 2 spots -- right where that visible gear is on the back side of the engine (above and in front of the drive axle on the same side as the drive axle bearing) and what looks like a weep hole at the very bottom of the engine/transmission interface.

It only seems to happen when the car is being driven-- there is some spray on some of the steering rack, frame etc...

After wiping it off last night, I started it on the ramps and climbed under to observe. It idled for maybe 5-8 minutes and nothing else came out, however after driving to work this morning (42 miles from home) I knelt down in front of the car and there was a couple of drips. I'm not too excited about paying $1K for repairs.

I think I'll try and see if there is some sort of leak detector dye to see if it is actually fresh oil that's coming out and not a bunch of "loosened up" crap from the degreaser. I have my fingers crossed.

Thanks,

Kyle
