Slide-out cupholder broken; replace the whole thing? 850 1996

Welcome to the club. These cupholders were not designed to be used to hold cups, but rather to give a salesman a feature to talk about in the showroom. Mine has broken soon after I bought the car new and I had it replaced under warranty, though they warned me that that was the last time they would cover the cup holder. The part costs about $40 and is pretty easy to replace by yourself, but why would you spend $40 for something that will surely break again soon? That was my reasoning and I just left it broken. Every now and again I think of a "rubber-band-and-chewing-gum" way of fixing the broken part, but then the need for it goes away and I don't think about for another few months. Just pretend you have a car that didn't come with the cup holder and you'll be happy.

Good luck.
