I've met customers who've gone to other sources for trans rebuilding/replacement and was told that their total price was about the same as the dealer. I've also seen where trans shop buy a rebuilt OEM trans from the dealers parts department (probably then marked up for profit, normal business practice) and they'ld charge the same amount of time as it's book time (10 hours) but maybe their labor rate is less? Either way, I don't think that you'll save a ton of money by going elsewhere and if rebuilt, might not last as long w/o problems as the OEM rebuilt unit.
