I'd have to agree with Mike H. I replaced the entire shaft since the boot had ruptured, and I live in a really sandy area and I didn't know how long it had been split. Saves a whole lot of labor, and a little peace of mind, as well. I paid $165 for a reman shaft from Swedish Engineering. Works great. I took my old one apart the weekend after I changed the shaft because I'm a dork and I wanted to see how it works.
