service engine light S70 1998

I recently bought 98 s70 glt w/80k miles. The service engine light came on, took it back to dealer, was told it was a misfire code, it was reset. Light came on again, got second opinion. Was told it was a code for an emissions system pump that adds air while the engine is cold to reduce emissions. The pump is seized from taking in water. Expensive to fix. (approx. $500) Said it would do no harm to NOT fix it as it would probably fail again because of a bad design with the pump being situated too low and taking in water. Said that the design was used for 2 years and alot of 98's have the same problem. However, the service light remains on all the time and if something else should go wrong I'll never know it.

Has anyone else experienced this or am I being fed a line of BS? Should this thing be fixed??

Thanks
