Remote entry malfunction

I have a '98 V70 that has lost the remote lock/unlock funtion after a battery replacement ( car's starting battery). I was told to switch the ignition on-off five times, leaving in the "on" position the fifth time, and pressing the remote command buttons. No go. Anyone found this problem and the solution?
