My '94 850 was doing that too, and the gauge I bought said it was fine, but I added an entire can of coolant and now it works great! I used a "high milage" A/C recharge formula - $5 at Kragen, and it helps seal leaks and restore performance of the coolant. I think those cheap gauges they sell are crap!
