yes, a blocked flame trap will lead to increased internal engine pressure, because the engine "can't breathe" and this leads to the common oil leaks. If your is plugged up, just buy a new one at the dealer and replace, they're about $2.00. Cleaning the flame trap is recommended at least once a year.
