2003 S40 Engine sound question S40-V40

The intake connections appear secure.

I had a 2000 S40 that I traded in for this 2003. In both of them, I removed the foam and installed a K&N air filter. I can't really compare performance--in the 2000, I had an IPD exhaust and other goodies which I have not installed in the new one yet. The new one's noise is definitely louder than my older one.

The pipe on the top of the engine from the turbo to the intercooler is metal in the 2003 and was plastic in the 2000. Can this be a cause of a louder turbo noise?
