there is no adjustment to that effect.
I guess maybe you are thinking of a linkage problem, but that wouldn't help you, I'm afraid. If you let it go longer, you'll get to the point that you have to hold it in gear. Eventually, you won't even be able to do that.

out of curiosity, how many miles are on your car?
