Test driving used 850, what to look for??

If the dealer is a Volvo dealer, he should be able provide copies of all service records done at his facility based on the VIN. You might also look in the glove box or inside the owners manual package for previous owners names. There are a couple services online that provide limited history based on the VIN - usually where and when the vehicle was registered each year, sometimes including mileage.

On a high mileage car, get a bargain price and keep some extra $$ in your pocket for repairs. I assume you're aware of AC evap cores and their replacement cost. That and the rear seal are probably the worst big ticket items. Sway bar links are another issue but they're not terribly expensive. I've read about a few failed heater cores but they seem to be DIY fixable for a reasonable cost if you're inclined. I've bought several high mileage cars and my experience has been good. Have an independent mechanic check yours out. Good Luck.
