Shift knob removal S70

I have a 99 S70 base model, and though it's a pretty different car, I don't imagine the shift knob removal could be that different. It was hard to do in comparison with most any other car, but it's certainly not impossible. First of all, pull down the leather shift boot until it's away from the knob. Exposed will be two black plastic tabs on either side of the base of the knob assembly. This is the point at which you should have decided whether this replacement will be permanent or not, because when you lift up one of the tabs (using a flathead screwdriver or similar tool) enough to pull the knob off, the tab will probably break off. When I removed mine, I broke off the tab on one side, then lifted up the tab on the other side with the screwdriver and pulled up on the knob, which popped it right off. This was by no means easy, and I had to be a bit more rough on the piece than I normally like to be on a car or anything with small parts like this. It took me about fifteen minutes, but keep in mind that your car's shift knob assembly may be different. I had a hard time accomplishing this without damaging the boot, unfortunately, and had in the end to replace that as well. Hope this helps some, and good luck.

Michael L.
