I think a 1/2" ID hose will do the trick and if you want to flush out the cooler, you can blow into the top hole with the hose out to force the cooler contents into the transmission sump.
Consider having a spare hose clip on hand. They have been known to break on removal. I would also suggest using Amsoil ATF or Mobil 1 ATF (both good synthetics) as long as you are taking the trouble to change it. It will last MUCH longer without deteriorating.
