noisy tappets - please HELP!!!! 850

It could be that the oil in the filter drains out. When I don't use a Mann/Volvo filter, I get the initial tappet sound too. Some filters don't have a spring anti-flowback feature that keeps the oil system somewhat pressurized, like if the engine were brand new and dry. I would see if you use Mann/Volvo filters, if not try one and see what happens. A cheap test at least.
