Good Floor jack??

I need to get a floor jack so I can get some work done on the cars, but don't want to spend an arm and a leg. Will a 2 ton jack do the trick, or do I need to go with a 2.5 or 3 ton? I plan on jacking, supporting with jack stands, then using the jack to as a back up.

Also, Wal-Mart has Mack (as in mack truck) jacks significantly cheaper than the jacks in the auto shops. Is this a good deal??
