Reset 'Service Engine' Light / '01 V70 T-5

My friend recently bought a '01 V70 T-5 and the "Service Engine" light just came on. I'm a RWD guy and of course know how to do it on my cars. I've searched the FWD forum and found that it requires a special tool ($$$) or a visit to the dealer for some models. Is this also the case with the '01?
