High oil consumption V70-XC70 1999

Jimmy, my '98 S70 N/A also consumes quite a bit of oil. It has done so since new. No leaks, passes emmissions with flying colors, so not enough burning to matter. Strangely enough, the tolerance for oil consumption is very large. Something like a quart per 1000 miles is considered normal and the dealer won't even look into the issue if it consumes that much or less. Mine consumes about a quart or so every 2K-3K miles. It runs fine, no blue smoke ever, so I am just living with it. One thing I would suggest is cut down on the oil changes, unless you are really using the car hard like towing heavy things all the time. I change oil between 5K and 7K (owner's manual recomends 10K for non-turbos) and use synthetic because I do not drive that much and therefore it doesn't cost that much. If I drove the car a lot I would use regular dino oil in the N/A car and changed it ever 5K. Even then, I expect the engine would outlive the rest of the car, what with all the electronic gadgetry and all.

Good luck.
