That a good question. How do you get the milage off of the code port?
Also, the website odometergears.com said you should not order this part until you remove the existing one, I guess to be sure you get the correct part.

My question is how long did it take to take this gear out? Will this render the car out of service?

I'm willing to buy the part before I remove this if the odds are good this is the problem.
