A true story by Ronjon (revised version):
Part location: Under the fuse box cover (remove 4 torx screws), center one on the row close to the firewall, picture: At home
Classic fuel pump relay symptom:
While driving, suddenly, I lose power, pressing the gas paddle has no response, no power breaks.
All the error/indication lights on the dashboard are lit.
I turn the car totally off, wait few seconds and crank it. It starts with no problem.
Few days later it happens again.
The fix story:
The dealer has no clue what is wrong and charges me labor ($65).
I took it to an indy shop, upon hearing the story, he says “When we replace the fuel pump relay the problem goes away.”
The mechanic orders the wrong part, the system relay ($35, located on the fan shroud, next to the cooling fan relay) and replaces it.
The problem is nowhere to be found. I am happy.
I go back to the dealer for a refund ($65), after major haggling I get a free transmission service!
Later I found out that the mechanic replaced the system relay not the fuel pump relay. The mechanic is confused. Have you heard this happening during surgery??
Two year later on a rainy day (sticky relay) the problem appears again.
This time I made sure the mechanic orders the fuel pump relay ($55, especial price, since my mechanic does not see me at his shop thanks to my Brick Board bothers and DIY efforts).
Currently I wait and see if this took care of the problem.
