Hi,

Dont be affraid to wash your engine with direct water; you better exposed your car to water because, anyway, your car will be exposed to bad weather condition or humidity. For sure, cover your alternator/distributor. Apply some electronic grease to keep electronic contact water/humidity free. It would be fine. You can use degreaser (Gunk), armorall for finish and reapply anti-rust stuff (rust check in a can) wherever you think it's good.
