You should have the codes read...either by the dealer ($$) or Autozone, Pep Boys, etc (free). When you get the codes, post it up and it'll be easier to diagnose the problem.
On my car, the check engine light seemed to come on everytime I got gas. I bought a new gas cap...hoping it was just a faulty one...but that didn't help. Eventually, I had the code read by Autozone & my friend's OBD-II reader and posted it on Brickboard. A lot of people helped me on the repairs to finally clear the check engine light.
