ac just shuts off 850 1996

CAN YOU HELP MY AC RUNS WITH NO PROBLEM ON THE MOTORWAY BUT AS SOON AS I DO
TOWN RUNS IT SHUTS OFF .THEN IF I TURN IT OFF FOR 2 MINS THEN ON AGAIN IT WILL WORK THEN OFF AGAIN.IT SEEMS TO SWITCH OFF WHEN THE ENG GETS TO A CERTAIN TEMP
IN TRAFIC,BUT ON MOTORWAY VERY COLD.
IS THERE A OVER RIDE SWITCH WHEN ENG GETS HOT IF SO WHERE SO I CAN OVER RIDE IT.
MY ENG IS NOT GETTING TO HOT AT ALL.
