Check Engine Light (CEL) C70 2000

My CEL came on during acceleration on an onramp on Sun.
Gas was about half full at the time. While the gas cap didn't appear too loose, I did open and reseal it. If any of you have had the pesky CEL come on for a loose gas cap, was the tank just under full when it lit or near half like mine? Also, if you remember how many on/off ignition cycles it takes to auto-reset, please advise.
