The D5 is a "common rail" diesel which is getting a good reputation here in the UK. It was introduced in 2000 to replace the previous Audi 2.5 TDI engine, which Volvo used in the 850 and earlier V70's (I've got one - VERY economical, just hope the cambelt survives!)
