Clean and test 850 1997

Ronjon,

Thanks for the info. I removed the grab handle easily enough, but the sensor assmebly itself seems to be a problem. The sensor seems to have a backing plate or fitting on it that is much bigger in diameter than the hole in the headliner material. I feel that if I try to pull it through with force I will end up tearing the headliner. I looked into the sensor itself with a flashlight and it indeed looks to be caked up with dust and dirt. I tried cleaning it in place with some quick evaporating electronics cleaner, like you use on circuit boards, alternators, etc. (nice CFC's, great for the ozone!). However, this didn't seem to have any effect, I'm sure because I had no way to mechanically remove the gunk like with a brush or probe. The CFC's do a great job of disolving hydrocarbons (greases, oils, etc.) but don't şeally solvate dust and dirt to well. Do you remember if you had to rip up the headliner to get that thing out? I'm thinking that maybe there's a way to seperate it from the backing plate and pull it through the headliner without the plate but I couldn't get that to happen. The only other way to get it out that I can see is to remove the interior door opening trim piece that runs from the dash up and over to the B pillar, then lift up on the exposed headliner edge and pull it out from behind.

Any other ideas?
Thanks again!
Scott
