Trunk lid struts. As the 850s age I guess this is gonna be a common replacement item. One of the trunk support struts crapped out on my '95 850T and if even one goes bad the trunk is a bear to open. I called around and of course nobody but the dealer had one.... theirs are gold plated though, $61 each. So I went to the old standby, FCPGroton.com and got them for $24 each, exact factory replacement part number and everything. I'm replacing both of them and I'll keep the one that still works for a spare. If you replace them be sure to get the correct one if your car has a spoiler on the trunk lid, they are the heavy duty ones. Made in Germany by Stabilus, part number 3512998 for the spoiler equipped 850's. Just thought I'd post this info for anyone that can't lift a 200 lbs trunk lid with one arm full of groceries.
