That plan will increase the difference between the two fronts and the new rear, with a tire in between as a bonus.
I'd rotate the three similar tires around, swapping the new tire from side to side in the rear. I'd rotate as often as I could, ie. every 5K.
lf - used1...rf - used2.......to ->......lf - used3...rf - used1
lr - used3...rr - new....................lr - new rr - used2
next
lf - used2...rf - used3.......to ->......lf - used1...rf - used2
lr - used1...rr - new....................lr - used3...rr - new
Of course, this becomes moot when your son hits another curb ;)
