I had the same experience with my 97 850. I took it in for a timing belt and it turned out that the water pump had a small leak. Therefore, it was a no brainer to go ahead and fix it.

My independent shop advised that it was very rare for the pump to go up at 74K. However, knowing the luck that I have had with this car, it kind of figures that mine would leak at 74K.
