You might be able to loosen it by hand. Try for yourself to see if you can get it to budge. Just a little movement shouldn't break the seal. Just retighten if you do get it to move.
I change my oil without the oil filter wrench. I use a strap wrench to help get the filter to turn then loosen by hand. You can get it back on by turning until it stops. The last few turns will have a bit of resistance but you keep turning until the ridge just under the treads stops up against the engine, basically till you can't turn it any further by hand.
I stongly suggest a pair of Rhino Ramps. I changed the oil once without ramps. Never again!
OEM filters are made by MANN. Very good quality.
What oil are you using? I have had excellent results with Mobil 1. I ran an oil analysis that showed amazingly minimal wear.
